Case 72: This patient had sustained a nasal fracture that caused a significant deviation of her nose. The fracture was corrected along with a septoplasty to improve breathing. Loss of tip support after the injury made her hump look more prominent and her tip felt more droopy. The bump was smoothened and her tip angulation restored to create the softer, more feminine profile she wanted. At the same time, fat transfer to the cheek and under eye area and subtle neck liposuction substantially improved the flat cheek and mid-face contour that previously made her feel hollowed and tired looking without makeup.
2. Who will be administering your anesthesia and is it general anesthesia? This will be a big factor in your cost and a significant difference in levels of training and responsibility. If you have any underlying medical condition, I strongly recommend you seek an Anesthesiologist who would be prepared for any emergency, should something occur during your surgery. I personally also do not recommend "awake" breast augmentation procedures. There are few board certified plastic surgeons that will offer you this option.3. Is your procedure being performed in an accredited operating suite? And if so, does the surgeon have admitting privileges at a hospital? Non-surgeons and other physicians that are not plastic surgeons circumvent this process by performing surgery in their offices or in outpatient surgery centers where the credentialing process is less rigorous or nonexistent. In these settings non-plastic surgeons perform procedures in which they have no formal residency training. I am not warning against use of outpatient surgery centers or in-office procedures. I am only recommending that you check that your physician has hospital privileges for these same procedures.
If the repair or revision of the nose is extensive, then the operating time is longer and there will be more expense involved. The fee is also based on the geographical location. For example, the cost of any facial cosmetic surgery in Hollywood, Beverly Hills, will be more expensive than the same procedure here in Toronto. The other factor and the most important consideration is the experience of the facial plastic surgeon performing the operation. As a facial plastic surgeon gains experience and clientele, their fee is usually more than that of a novice.
Some people opt for a temporary nonsurgical nose job—also called a liquid rhinoplasty—with hyaluronic=acid-based injectable fillers, like Voluma or Restylane Lyft. This minimally invasive procedure can camouflage bumps, create more symmetry, or lift and build up the tip of your nose. This approach has its limitations though. “If you have a large nose, it’s not going to get any smaller with fillers,” says Dr. Miller, though changes in proportions can sometimes make it appear smaller. It also can’t fix a crooked nose.
Rhinoplasty is a highly personal procedure that can affect a person's mental well-being, as well as his or her appearance. Therefore, it is vital that patients choose a surgeon with whom they feel comfortable. They should select a doctor who truly listens to their concerns, answers their questions, and creates a treatment plan that will address their specific goals. Patients should never choose someone who makes unrealistic promises or pressures them to undergo more surgery than they actually want.
